PRE-K through GRADE 4

The projects on this page are most appropriate for Pre-K through Grade 4 students. However, that does not mean they cannot be used for any other grade, depending on the circumstances of your particular classroom. Projects can be found for various content areas; some have been listed in more than one content area. Projects for students with learning disabilities can also be found on this page. 


SCIENCE 
Animal Activity - Students learn about animals (mammal, fish, bird, or reptile) through a website link and then complete the activity (xls spreadsheet) to test their knowledge. 

Plants Webquest - "Gus the gardener needs your help! He needs you to lear as much about plants so you can help him plant his garden." (ppt)

Animal cells vs. plant cells - This vodcast teaches students the differences and similarities between animal cells and plant cells. 

Rainforests - In this ppt presentation, students learn what makes up a rainforest, and where they exist. Includes various activities. 

What's Up with Wetlands? -  In this Webquest (ppt), students assume roles of wetlands animal, or land developer, or lawyer. After learning about wetlands (research links) they must present an argument about keeping or destroying wetlands. 

Water Cycle - This YouTube vodcast teaches the various stages of the water cycle on earth. 

Water Cycle 2 - This YouTube vodcast teaches the various stages of the water cycle on earth. No voice-over.

Vertebrates and Invertebrates - This YouTube vodcast teaches the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates.

The Inventive Zookeeper - In this Webquest (.doc) students will invent a new animal for the zoo in order to draw more people to the zoo.



SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY 
Branches of Government - In this PPT presentation, students learn about the three forms of US government.  


LANGUAGE ARTS
Word Families - This PPT activity teaches children to recognize how words that rhyme often have common letters in them, for example, cat, hat, rat, etc.

The Great Wordini - A spelling spreadsheet (xlsx) activity for young children.

MATH 
Let's Count Money - In this Excel activity spreadsheet students learn how to count money. 

Cashier and Buyer - In this Webquest (.doc), students assume roles of either a buyer or the cashier. They will learn to identify coins and paper money, how to count money, and how to make change. 

 ARTS
So You Want to Play an Instrument- In this wiki Webquest, students learn about the various instruments found in a band, in preparation for picking an instrument to learn how to play. This is geared towards fourth-graders, who typically start band instrument playing at this age. 

Colors - This spreadsheet activity teaches young children about colors. 
  
Color Words - This PPT presentation teaches children to identify the colors of objects with which they are familiar. 


PRE-K, SPECIAL NEEDS
Faces - This ppt presentation teaches students various facial expressions such as happy, sad, surprised, angry, scared. Includes links to games. 

Shapes - This PPT presentation teaches children about the basic shapes of square, triangle, etc.

HEALTH
School Behavior - This PPT presentation teaches children appropriate behaviors at school.
